Derek Gill Seymour was born in Barstaple, Devon, England on 8th August, 1928.
He joined Her Majesty’s Navy at 14 yesterday old, however, his career was cut short due to medical discharge having suffered from Tuberculosis. He survived and soon married his sweetheart Elizabeth Rooney in Scotland where they spent their married life and they went on to have five children.
He Studied Art at Murray House in Edinburgh Scotland and went on to teach Art in schools in Fife. Sadly, Betty passed away in 1993, though soon after, Derek was lucky enough to find happiness again until his sad passing in 2003. His works of art are enjoyed all over the world, especially his Scottish landmarks such as these, ‘The Three Bridges Over The River Forth, Scotland.
Having been told at school “art wasn’t for people like him”, local artist Kevin McConville graduated with a first class honours degree in Art in 2015. I managed to persuade him to come out of his comfort zone and do this for us to complete the set my dad started in 1978. THE THREE BRIDGES OVER THE FORTH IN SCOTLAND Dad would be honoured Kevin, thank you.
